Status Report on Education in the Caribbean Netherlands

Since 1 January 2011 schools, school boards and education establishments in the Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba) have come under the umbrella of the Dutch education system. This has led to new policy, research and evaluations, for example around amendments to education legislation, administrative arrangements aimed at improving education, inspectorate investigations focusing on educational quality, research into the opportunities and risks for Caribbean students in the Netherlands and numerous studies around poverty in the Caribbean Netherlands.

At the request of the competent ministers, the Education Council of the Netherlands is compiling a Status Report on Education in the Caribbean Netherlands. The Report will incorporate a review of existing research, evaluations and policy, and will also look more closely at a number of specific themes, to be defined in due course. The central theme running through the Report will be what the (European) Netherlands can learn from the Caribbean Netherlands and vice versa. The Education Council will look to work closely with education partners in the Caribbean Netherlands throughout the entire project.

The Status Report on Education in the Caribbean Netherlands is scheduled for publication in the first quarter of 2026.
